A Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague Jan 15 at 8 pm at Barnes and Noble

Though we usually read contemporary adult fiction, for January 15 we are reading a historical fiction book that takes you to the thoughts of Anna in Derbyshire, England in 1665 as the Black Plague spreads. When the rector decides to seal off the town to keep the disease from spreading, Anna contemplates ethics in a time when children learn the famous rhyme ‘Ring-a-Ring of Roses’ and in the street one hears the cry, ‘bring out your dead!’ Geraldine Brooks tells about the daily lives of 17th century English and so that we can come to know more about the human experience and ourselves. We will meet at 8 p.m.
